EDAE 601 - Philosophy and Organization of Workforce Education
Course Grade - A

This was my first class in the program. Given my background in workforce education, it was an appropriate and interesting way to restart my career as a student. The course examined the principles, philosophy, practices, and current trends in workforce education. Upon completion of this course, I had a much deeper understanding and appreciation for what I had been doing as a workforce education trainer in the past and how I will handle similar roles in the future.
For my first assignment, Assessing Arizona's Educational System , I examined the educational demographics in Arizona for K-12 students and the implications for future workforce training. Arizona is experiencing a budget crisis and education at all levels is suffering the consequences. For the current fiscal year, there is no money in the state budget for adult education, and K-12 is near the bottom in nearly every category I examined. The outlook for now and the future is bleak.
My second paper, Workforce Education that Works, examined the critical elements of workforce education design and applied those elements to a real world workforce setting, Home Buyer Orientation Training for builder superintendents. Much of the research I did for this paper made me realize how many things I was doing right in my previous positions before studying Adult Education and Training formally.
My third paper, Safety Training Requirements Ignored: An Arizona Home Building Workforce Education Issue, addressed the issues and trends related to the home building industry's lack of commitment to proper safety training. Construction, including residential construction continues to be among the most dangerous professions, yet the safety requirements are largely ignored in industry practices in Phoenix.
Lastly, my Agency Visit Paper, Arizona Public Service: Powering a Workforce Education Culture, entailed visiting and interviewing training managers from two different programs at Arizona Public Service, a major utility company in Arizona. It gave me the opportunity to see that some principles of workforce education apply regardless of the setting and a chance to see how they did it in an industry other than home building.
